Time To Drop Everything
Alright it's about time I stopped lying to myself. I'm making this to mark the day. This pseudo kind of masochism needs to stop. No more forcing myself to watch shows. Funnily enough, I now need to force myself to start dropping shows. I've been doing it because I convinced myself that it was to "keep my list clean" and that doesn't make any sense.
I'll probably still watch shows that are really bad if they have some sort of entertainment value because of it. Other than that, I'm dropping it. I'll be going over my on hold and seeing if anything should be kept there or sent to the dropped section. I'll figure it out in time.
Starting today I have dropped Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin. Not because of any special significance but mostly because it isn't all that interesting or entertaining.

EP 5
i was filled with emotions, watched it 5 times

definitely on of my girls
also yuki's fast reflexes enabling him to break in the living like a lightning
while kyo stupidly stood still
But very good scene

and now the Big Kyoru scene
— It’s okay to complain, or be selfish,
or get discouraged every once in a while.

Spring 2019 Prelims
Spring 2019 Prelims
Here’s some blurbs about all the shows I have seen something of or heard something about from Spring 2019, as of ~4 weeks in. There’s three sections: stuff I’m watching, stuff I tried, and stuff I haven’t tried. They're also in order of descending average score on MAL within their sections.
Stuff I’m Watching
Dororo: Why do people still think this is the best show that’s airing right now? It’s not. Get over it, MAL. It’s currently sitting at 8.53 and that’s way too high. I like MAPPA, but not this much. Refer to my previous two posts for more on why I’m not a fan of Dororo. Progress 14/24, Score 7/10.
Kimetsu no Yaiba: This show has a strong aesthetic, and I’m interested in seeing where it goes in regards to Nezuko. However, it’s really bothering me how the show seems to be so interested in explaining how important some things are. Like, “this boy managed to cut the strongest boulder” and I’m just like, how do you know that, show? And his first major encounter just so happens to heavily involve his teacher and the ghosts he met during his training. It feels… self-important? And it feels unjustifiably so, I guess. Oh, and there’s these pseudo-scientific explanations for special abilities, and it’s stupid. This is fantasy, we don’t need fake explanations. Anyway, I’m still enjoying Kimetsu no Yaiba for the aesthetic and special effects. I just think it could be so much better. Progress 4/26, Score 8/10.
Tate no Yuusha no Nariagari: This second cour’s OP is SO GOOD, I can’t even. There’s just so much sakuga. It probably brings the show up a point in my eyes, to be honest. I’m not really sure about the story right now, because it looks like it’s going somewhere but I don’t know where that is just yet. The last couple episodes have been sorta slow, but that’s fine by me. I’m enjoying it. Progress 17/25, Score 8/10.
One Punch Man 2nd Season: There’s no way it was going to be as good as season 1. For what it is, I like it. Some people are hating on JC Staff but I looked through their works and I actually like a lot of what they’ve done. This is good. It’s just not great. Progress 4/?, Score 7/10.
Isekai Quartet: This show is a lotta fun, in particular if you’ve seen at least one of the four shows it pulls main characters from--literally. For reference, I’ve seen all of Konosuba and Re:Zero, and episode 1 of Overlord and Youjo Senki. The animation isn’t amazing--you should be able to get the gist of that by the art style--but the voice acting and plot carry my enjoyment. You should know if you’ll enjoy this show or not. Progress 4/12. Score 7/10.
Kenja no Mago: I’m isekai trash, and I’m enjoying this. It’s not as bad as you’d expect for how generic it is; it’s actually really fun and self-aware. And it feels surprisingly realistic? You know, as much as you can get with reincarnation into a fantasy setting. The animation has been pretty good so far; nothing in particular is really dragging Kenja no Mago down. I recommend giving it a try if you’re not sick of isekai. Progress 4/12, Score 7/10.
Sarazanmai: Sarazanmai is Art. As expected of Ikuhara. It’s also very Japanese, and full of puns. So you might not appreciate parts of it if you’re not listening for them, because they’re not all translated into the subtitles. There’s also a lot of butt stuff, because apparently kappas are known for butt stuff? Not sure on that bit. But it’s very pretty, and just like in Ikuhara’s other recent works, characters’ houses are stuffed full of colorful details that further characterize them, and I love it. If it clinches the ending, Sarazanmai will be a mastahpeece, so I’m giving it a 10 for now. Progress 4/11, Score 10/10.
Bokutachi wa Benkyou ga Dekinai: I started reading this manga on recommendation from a friend, and after getting past the first few chapters I thought it was just stupid ecchi romcom bullshit. But then I kept reading. And eventually, it became something special. Like, I teared up during the first episode because it brought to mind one of the most recent chapters. Unfortunately, episode 4 is when the show starts delving into the stupid ecchi romcom bullshit. Once it gets out of this phase, it’ll be good again, but who knows how many episodes that’ll take. Honestly I can’t recommend this unless you think you’ll enjoy it. Progress 4/13, Score 7/10.
Midara na Ao-chan wa Benkyou ga Dekinai: I’ll watch shorter shows even if the quality bar isn’t as high as I’d normally require. And this show isn’t that great. But it’s cute and funny, and half length, so hey, why not. Progress 4/?, Score 6/10.
RobiHachi: This is basically Gintama without all the baggage of being over 300 episodes long. If you like comedy give it a try. There were maybe 1.5 bum episodes in the first 4, so don’t go in expecting anything amazing, but if you’re curious, episode 1 is good. Did I mention it’s really funny? Progress 4/12, Score 7/10.
Stuff I Tried
Carole & Tuesday: I’m waiting for the dub on this one. The jam session in episode 1 threw me off because the VAs didn’t match the singing. Progress 1/?, Score 9/10.
Sewayaki Kitsune no Senko-san: I watched 3 episodes of this to see if it was going to do anything cool or worth my time. It hasn’t so far. I was hoping the neighbor would introduce some new dynamics, but she fell pretty flat for me. Progress 3/12, Score 5/10.
Fairy Gone: Man I like the main character, but everything about this show is so clunky. Clunky CG, clunky worldbuilding, clunky dialogue, clunky character motivations, you name it! I can’t motivate myself to watch any more. Progress 3/24, Score 5/10.
Joshikausei: It’s not good. Progress 1/?, Score 4/10.
Stuff I Haven’t Tried
Fruits Basket (2019): I’ve heard this is good shoujo
Hitoribocchi no Marumaru Seikatsu: I’ve heard this is cute
Kono Oto Tomare!: Looks like it might not be bad
Senryuu Shoujo: I’ve heard this is cute
