The Spring 2013 anime season is over. Before I dive into the Summer 2013 new anime series I will post my final ratings and comments on the Spring 2013 anime series that I watched to completion.
“Chihayafuru S2” - rating: A. Okay, Chihayafuru was actually a Winter 2013 series that finished in the Spring, but it was still by far my favourite series of the Spring season. Everything that was done well in the first season was done very well again in the sequel – great characters, direction, voice acting and writing.
“Red Data Girl” - rating: B+. And odd but effective fantasy that often moved with deliberate speed but still managed to tell a convincing story.
“Hataraku Maou-sama” - rating: B+. The surprise of the Spring for me, this comic fantasy brought together an endearing cast of characters in a nicely done stranger-in-a-strange-land setting.
“Namiuchigiwa no Muromi-san” - rating: B. This slapstick comedy about mermaids and fishing was a bit uneven at times but still brought plenty of laughs.
“Yondemasu yo, Azazel-san Z” - rating: B. This sequel to the bizarre gag comedy about demons was more uneven than the first season but it still had some great visual gags.
“Sparrow's Hotel” - rating: C+. This three minute comedy about a ninja girl in a hotel started out strong but went flat half way through in tandem with the animation style making a big change to being very ordinary.
And I am still watching One Piece (rating: A), Meitantei Conan (rating: A), Folktales from Japan (rating B), and Kuromajo-san ga Touru (rating B) as they continue into yet another anime season.
