[Kurzreview / German] Made in Abyss

Made in Abyss - They fear a life without longing more than death.

Re: Zero theory

Hey guys I have have a theory about Re: Zero and why Subaru has been summond to the other world. I haven´t read the light novel so this is anime only. Sorry if my english isn´t that good. Ok so basicly from the information we have from season 1, Emilia and Puck have a treaty wich is that if Emilia dies Puck will destroy the world. I think Puck and Satella aka the witch of envy have met each other in the past and the witch somehow knows about this treaty. So the witch can´t kill Emilia without causing the end of the world. And thats where Subaru comes in I think the witch uses Suabru as some sort of counter to the treaty because if the world ends Subaru dies and then he turns everything back by dying. Subaru wants to protect Emilia and that is "good" for the witch so if Emilia dies Subaru would try everything to prevent that from happening. That is why the witch is kind of helping the good guys with giving Subaru the ability to Respawn. But in reality she just helps her self even if she let´s her own worshippers die (betelgeuse, the guys following him and the white whale wich she created by herself). Also i think she controls Suabrus spawnpoints because after the white whale was defeated his spawnpoint shifte to the point after the whale was killed. After he saw the whale for the first time his spawnpoint wasn´t moved. Well this is just a theory you can tell what you think of it if you want.

[Review / German] Magi Anime-Review #1

Magi Inhalt (Synopsis von MAL) Dispersed around the world, there are several bizarre labyrinths hiding incredible treasures within them. These mysterious places, known as "Dungeons," are said to be the work of Magi, a class of rare magicians, who also help people build their empires by guiding them to a dungeon. Djinns, supernatural beings that rule over the labyrinths, grant successful conquerors access to their immense power and choose them as potential king candidates to rule the world. Having spent life in isolation, Aladdin, a kind and young magician, is eager to explore the world upon finally leaving his home behind. He begins his journey only accompanied by his mentor Ugo—a djinn that Aladdin can summon with his flute. However, Aladdin soon becomes friends with the courageous Alibaba Saluja after causing the destruction of a local merchant's supply cart. In order to pay for the damages, Alibaba suggests that they attempt to conquer the nearest dungeon, taking the first step in an epic adventure that will decide the fate of the world itself. Genres Shounen, Fantasy, Adventure, Drama, Comedy Manga Mangaka: Shinobu Ohtaka Veröffentlichungsdatum Magi-Manga: 2009 - 2017 Veröffentlichungsdatum Sinbad-Manga: 2013 - 2018 Volumes Magi-Manga: 37 (abgeschlossen) Volumes Sinbad-Manga: 18 (abgeschlossen) Serialization Magi-Manga: Shounen Sunday Serialization Sinbad-Manga: Ura Sunday Anime Studio: A-1 Pictures Regie: Koji Masunari Drehbuch: Hiroyuki Yoshino Ausstrahlung: 2012/2013 Episoden: 50 Eventuell nicht abgeschlossen?
Hakuryuu My Crybaby.
May Anime Update

Before we get to the new stuff I do want to address some good news and then some bad news. The good news is that I’m now a premium member of Funimation Now and of course starting this season they are licensing and dubbing their own exclusive shows ever since their break-up with Crunchyroll. Yet oddly enough Crunchy somehow managed to get the rights to stream all but four of Funi’s anime pickups which I have no complaints about but made me question if my $60 yearly fee was still going to be really worth it, I hope it will. I do have one gripe about Funi’s streams and their subtitles can get a bit wonky, it’s like they cannot split up the word plates, it’s either all near the bottom or all at the top and also sometimes makes it hard to tell who’s saying what when there are sign translations or have two or more people talking. On the plus side, you can set the subtitle color to yellow (all hail yellow subtitles!) but for the way it is you just gotta get used to it. Now for the bad news: I have decided that I will not be downloading any non-legal episodes, nor I personally will not use BitTorrent or any similar software on my computer nor I will not resort to going to non-legal streaming sites, like “Kiss Anime” or whatever similar places, to watch shows for the time being. This mainly includes anime that are exclusively streaming on Amazon, Netflix, Hulu or HIDIVE (or even totally unlicensed series). This doesn’t really mean I will refuse to watch these anime, I actually do have a personal friend that can get me these shows but I only see him occasionally, plus I also slowly watch some of these at my IRL anime meetings. Pretty much, bottom line, for whatever shows I’m not able to watch legally please do not expect me to finish them by the time they end in Japan. Right now the only shows I was watching like this were “Dororo” and “One Punch Man Season 2” and it’s not much but getting these myself is too risky and do not want to compromise anything nor deal with the B.S. those sites or methods throw at me. Honestly I’d love to eventually subscribe to services like Netflix, Amazon Prime or even HIDIVE (although Sentai’s shows are now showing up on Crunchyroll) but I really can’t afford them at the moment. *** New Movie Impressions *** — Bungo Stray Dogs: Dead Apple — Animated by Studio Bones (Bungo Stray Dogs TV series, My Hero Academia, Mob Psycho 100%, Soul Eater) Directed by Takuya Igarashi (Bungo Stray Dogs TV series, Soul Eater, Ouran Host Club) Written by Yoji Enokido (Bungo Stray Dogs TV series, Redline, Revolutionary Girl Utena) and Kafka Asagiri (original manga series author) With music by Taku Iwasaki (Bungo Stray Dogs TV series, Soul Eater, Gurren Lagaan) So it’s really great to see that pretty much EVERYONE that worked on the first two season of the TV anime had worked on the more recent movie and also great to have Crunchyroll.com have it available to stream on their site but the biggest question is will this be mandatory to watch in order to get into the brand new third season that started in April? Sadly (or thankfully) no and this is really all an 100% filler mini-arc, as most anime movies based on TV and manga series are, but I’m not saying you should skip out on it. The situation in this is the A.D.A. are tasked to investigate very odd suicides of various “gifted” across the globe and also seems to be linked to mysterious occurrences of fog in various cities and also seek to investigate Tatsuhiko Shibusawa (also named after a Japanese author) whom is also calling himself “the collector”. When this fog starts hitting the Yokohama area normal people are simply vanishing out of thin air and is creating dark doppelgängers of gifted users that walk in it! The whole movie pretty much feels like I’m watching an extended bonus episode of the anime, albeit with a slightly higher budget than normal, and also you do have to watch at the first two seasons to really know who these characters in the story are however I thought it’s overall story and content were just as good as some of the better parts of the TV anime. Studio Bones work on this is pretty top notch with a bunch of great quality scenes, battle sequences, awesome effects and a final battle that really takes anything that has been in the series to way over-the-top levels (almost Mob Psycho 100% levels), although I kind of wished they played some new track from J-rockers “Granrodeo” instead of just the 2nd opening song. Yet in the end of it all the characters and all of Yokohama itself are pretty much just back to the same’ol, same’ol like as if nothing really major happened and at least it’s set as a clean slate for more manga material to come about. Overall this one is really only for the fans of the series although it’s not all too bad as an anime introduction and to it’s wide range of characters but may make some viewers lost in what is going on with them. If you liked watching the TV series then definitely check this out, if you are a newbie then you are better off just giving the first season a try. I rate these modern literature crusaders 8 white tiger punches out of 10. Both the movie and the past anime series are currently all streaming on Crunchyroll.com and VRV, both seasons of the TV series are currently out on BluRay and DVD from Funimation. *** New Anime Series 1st Impressions *** — Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunousen — AKA: “Kaguya-sama: Love is War” Based on the manga series by Aka Akasaka Animated by A-1 Pictures (the Sword Art Online series, the Seven Deadly Sins series and Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku) Directed by Mamoru Hatakeyama (Record of Grancrest War, Showa Genroku Rakugo Shinju, Sankarea) Adapted by Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Fw: Hamatora movie) Originally this all aired back in the winter 2019 season but never really got the chance to fully check into it, even though I did list it in my honorable picks from last season, and been hearing a bunch of fun and interesting buzz out of it (and even saw a meme made from it too) so it’s about time I finally looked into the series. The story is mainly focused on two people: Miyuki the male student council president and Kaguya the female council vice president and every short act of each episode is one big game to see who can confess their love for each other yet whoever does it first is the loser and even at the end of each act they either declare who won the game or sometimes even declare there were no winners. Then there’s Chika who is the council’s secretary yet she is pretty much the “wild card” of these love games and also really likes to put in some high unpredictability into these situations, plus she’s so friggin’ cute and has nice chesticles. The overall quality and animation of the series isn’t all too bad but for it’s comedic and psychological nature it isn’t all too much detailed either, A-1 does put in some neat effects like showing flashback scenes as old VHS tape footage but it’s all nothing too special. I do want to mention about the ending sequence for episode 3 where you see Chika randomly bust into a dancing music number and the character animation on that was just unbelievable, like they had to fully video record someone perform the sequence and then animated completely on on top of it, reminded me of really old animation styles used by Disney. The opening theme is pretty damn fun and catchy and also reminds me of really older James Bond films and while Chika is not dancing out like a buffoon the normal ending theme is pretty cute, calm and to the point. Yet the real main draw to this series is the camaraderie between the main characters and just seeing how they can each outsmart each other and a bunch of times give out some pretty funny results and honestly I’ve had a fun blast of a time watching the first four episodes. The anime may not be for everyone but if you are looking for some dumb and fun material to spice up your usual anime viewings then give it a shot. All episodes are streaming on Crunchyroll.com, Funimation Now and Hulu and is already licensed by Aniplex USA. The original manga series is currently being released by VIZ. — Fruits Basket — Based on the manga series by Natsuki Takaya Animated by TMS (Megalo Box, the Yowamushi Pedal series, ReLIFE, Orange) Directed by Yoshihide Ibata (FLCL Progressive, Attack on Titan: Junior High) Adapted by Taku Kishimoto (the Haikyuu!! series, 91 Days, Joker Game, “Erased”) I remember when Funimation was just getting their first grasp in the U.S. anime market near the beginning of the 2000’s and they were heavily promoting three anime at the time: Dragon Ball Z (and is still their #1 money maker to this day), Blue Gender (a really bloody and dark mecha series) and this shoujo comedy drama series called “Fruits Basket”. At first glance the series was pretty much a turn off for me with it’s highly cute, super-big-eyed characters and mainly focused on teen bishounen which turn into cute little animal zodiac versions of themselves if they are touched by a female. Now nearly 20 years later studio TMS is bringing out a full-on remake of the series but this time all of the characters have more realistic proportions unlike it’s original manga and older anime counterparts and when I saw the first trailers I said “yeah, sure I’ll give this a shot”. After watching the first four episodes honestly I thought this is a pretty enjoyable series to watch and really liked experiencing all of the weird and funny situations the characters are going through and also makes me feel sorry for all of the BS they have to deal with. I still will say that this is a fairly female-centered anime and does mostly focus on bishonen characters, it’s also practically a “reverse harem” with one main girl and multiple male partners, there are a couple female members of the “Soma” clan the MC Tohru meets and eventually stays with but the story doesn’t focus on them much (yet). Now this new version is coming from the same anime team that recently finished up on the highly fantastic “Megalo Box” and their work on this is visually pretty strong with lots of great looking artwork and backgrounds and also they do some impressive work on both the opening and ending themes and their vocal counterparts really fit them to a “T”. Personally this is my 2nd best new Spring anime I’ve watched of the season that isn’t a continuation of a past series, with it’s bishonen counterparts and it’s highly cute factors it may not be for everyone but really love to have anyone give this series a decent chance and maybe worth everyone’s time and hoping to stick with the rest of the series. The new anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.com, VRV and Hulu with English dubbed episodes streaming on Funimation Now and has been licensed by Funimation. The original anime is also streaming on Funimation Now. — Kimetsu no Yaiba — AKA: “Demon Slayer” Based on the Shonen Jump manga series by Koyoharu Gotage Animated by Ufotable (the “Fate/Stay Night” series, Touken Ranbu: Katsugeki, Tales of Zestiria the X) Directed by Naruo Sotozaki (Tales of Zestiria the X, Tales of Symphonia The Animation, “Ninja Nonsense”) Adapted by ??? (only shows “Ufotable” on anidb.net and ANN so IDK) Featuring Music by Yuki Kajiura (the “Sword Art Online” series, Fate/Zero, Madoka Magica) Wether if you call them “U.F.O.Table” or “U-foe-tah-bowl” I will forever call them by one name: “UNLIMITED BUDGET WORKS!!!” (with lightning bolts coming out of their fingers) and it highly amazes me on the emperor supreme talents this studio can dish out and this series is definitely no exception. The anime is somewhat similar to another highly enjoyable series currently airing which is “Dororo” in both setting and history and in this one the MC Tanjiro’s family gets brutally slaughtered by man-eating “oni”, of course demons, all except for her sister Nezuko whom somehow survives yet at a very hefty price of becoming a partial oni herself and Tanjiro sets to become a “demon slayer” in order to avenge his family as well as attempt to find a cure for Nezuko. After some intensive training from a demon slayer master he then sets off for the “final selection” test in order to be proven worthy of being a “demon slayer”. The story isn’t all super serious and hard-built like in Fate/Stay and there are couple WTF moments, also the oni themselves kind of remind me of the ones in “Tokyo Ghoul” except they don’t have those superpower attacks or skills yet can pull off their own interesting surprises. Yet again the animation and quality work being done from Ufotable is hands down amazing and with Kajiura’s superb music talents brings in some pretty intense moments and utterly fantastic sequences. Plus will say that these are some of the best opening and ending themes done by female j-rocker “LiSA” that I’ve ever heard and the art and animation done on both of them are just plain awesome. If you want my honest opinion, this anime maybe rated a 10 out of 10 which is uber rare for me and so far have only given to the TV anime of Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex however I will only put that to final judgement after watching the rest of the series. Overall this is an anime EVERYONE needs to check out, I know mystical samurai action may not be everyone’s cup of tea but it just must be seen and hate to have people miss out on it, also pretty damn cool that it’s already set to be a 26-episode series! The anime is currently streaming on Crucnyroll.com, VRV, Hulu and Funimation Now and has been licensed by Aniplex USA. The original manga series is currently being released by VIZ. — Fairy Gone — Animated by P.A.Works (Sirius the Jaeger, Sakura Quest, Charlotte, Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea) Directed by Kenichi Suzuki (Cells at Work!, Drifters, Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Parts 1-3) Written by Ao Jumonji (creator of “Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash”) I still like to consider studio P.A. Works as a pretty high-tier studio and they have done some very enjoyable as well as very impressively looking series in the past yet with this one seems like I’m watching some mid 2000’s “Gonzo” anime when the “Underworld” movies were making money in DVD sales and both “Linkin Park” and “Evanescence” were blazing the alt. rock charts, it just feels aged. Not only that but this series has some of the most half-assed CG work I have ever seen and blows my mind how they can get away with this even in 2019! Even the story seems like something from the 2000’s entertainment era where mankind finds a way to implant supernatural powers into humans with the power of “fairies” and have created special “fairy soldiers” to use in wars, then years later we find that there are rogue super soldiers causing terror among the citizens and the country’s government creates a special agency called “Dorothea” to capture these insubordinates with their own “fairy soldiers”. It’s definitely not an easy story to take in one gulp. I do like the more realistic designs of the characters, definitely reminds of another 2000’s anime, “Ergo Proxy”, and PA does put in some fairly decent work on animation to them as well as with it’s dark Eastern European settings to the world, however that ugly CG work of the “fairy” summons really sticks out like a big-ass sore thumb, and they even seem like a complete rip-off to “Personas” from the Atlus JRPGs. Also what the hell is up with the vehicles in this world? They have like freaking bug legs instead of wheels yet then we see people ride 1930’s style motorcycles, it’s just weird, dude. Will give good props to the music composer and making some rocking tunes for it’s opening and battle music although really not sure of mid 2000’s “rap-rock” is all too suitable for this series. The first four episodes of the series are a complete mixed bag and personally didn’t really leave a great first impression yet I am still curious on what the rest of the story will unfold and I think has some interesting ideas but being that there are 24 planned episodes will this series be worth it for the long run? For now I’ll just stick with it for this season but cannot guarantee I will deal with the rest of it. The anime is currently streaming on Funimation Now and Hulu with English episodes streaming on Funimation Now and has been licensed by Funimation. — Mayonaka no Occult Koumuin — AKA: Midnight Occult Civil Servants Based on the manga series by Yoko Tamotsu Animated by Liden Films (Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka, Hanebado!, Heroic Legend of Arslan) Directed by Tetsuya Watanabe (Schwarzemarken, Soukou no Strain) Adapted by Tatsuto Higuchi (Revue Starlight, Schwarzemarken, Cross Ange) Now I’m personally all up for watching shows about the paranormal, supernatural, ancient mystical, alien or just straight up funky shit and seemed like this show would get my anime “X-Files” on but then I found out that this one is really more for the ladies than the gentlemen. Hell, then again I still think even WB’s “Supernatural” is more of a “chick show” too. The story mainly follows Arata Miyako when he becomes a new recruit of the “night community exchange department” which is an arm of the Japanese government and they are tasked to resolve problems regarding occult issues of supernatural beings they call “anothers”. Yet it just so happens that Arata is also a lost ancestor of the legendary “onmyoji” Abe no Seimei and right on his first day finds out that he can hear and communicate with the “anothers” when none of the other members can. Much of the other civil members are also handsome men and there’s even one that cross dresses as a female lab doctor but then there’s “Huehuecoyotl”, whom is the Aztec god of mischief, which I swear looks like he’s going to get his mack on Arata at like any moment. The story doesn’t get really into any LGBT material, yet, but I’m sure this series could stir up some yaoi fan-fiction. As far as the quality of the series, it’s a mixed bag, nothing really all too strong or striking, and Liden Films typically isn’t all too big in the quality department for some of their shows, yet at least it seems like their background artists are going a pretty decent job of recreating real life places around Tokyo in the first four episodes. Another plus is the series composer, Even Call, whom did some fantastic work on the “Violet Evergarden” series and has been putting out some pretty chill jazz and contemporary tunes for this series, sadly both the opening and ending song themes and animations are pretty forgettable. I personally don’t think this is all that great of a show watch and I’m not all too much for it’s mainly mature male cast but I think the only reason I’m going to stick with it is just to see what other supernatural instances and hijinks the occult term are going to deal with, like I thought that whole sit with the big drunken spirit was pretty funny, yet I really don’t think this will be a very rememberable one. It’s only set for 12 episodes so at least I don’t have to deal with it for next season. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.com and VRV with English dubbed episodes streaming on Funimation Now. — Kono Yo no Hate de Koi wo Utau Shouji YU-NO — AKA: “YU-NO: A Girl Who Chants Love at the Bound of This World” Based on the adult visual novel from ELF Animated by Feel Animation Studio (Hinamatsuri, Island, Tsukigakirei, My Teen Romantic Comedy: SNAFU) Directed and Adapted by Tetsuo Hirakawa (Grimoire of Zero) Of course “isekai” anime are what’s driving the biz now-a-days and hate to say is getting a bit over saturated with at least a couple shows about the genre airing every season, yet I haven’t really seen too many “reverse isekai” series where the alternate fantasy worlds enter in the real one and seemed like this one would finally bring that type of story back. This series follows Takuya Arima, a high school teen who’s father mysteriously disappears shortly before the story’s start yet later receives a very odd package containing a letter and a special device that discovers the existence of parallel universes and is maybe a key to find out where exactly his father went to. Later on he discovers a strange naked elf-like female lying near an other-worldly rock formation near his hometown that only calls herself “Yuno” but then shortly after she disappears. After that Takuya is able to use the strange device from his father to actually reverse time yet warp to an alternate dimension very similar to where he was and is able to even do things differently than what he did in the past. The series is already set to be 26 episodes long yet I really didn’t expect for the whole anime to explain itself in just the first for episodes and seems like it really needs more time to get it’s bearings straight, hell, look at “Steins:Gate” and that series really didn’t get going until episode 12. Plus I know this was originally based on an “eroge” but there’s a whole bunch of horny action going on around this series and even seems like all of the adult females are ready to mack on Takuya at any moment, yet Takuya also seems to be a heavily seasoned male of culture, if you know what I mean. Studio Feel is known for pushing out some pretty good quality stuff, I even voted their series “Hinamatsuri” in my top 10 fav anime watched in 2018, but this one is somewhat of a mixed bag and didn’t really see anything all too great or rememberable in terms of art and animation. Same goes with the opening theme although the new song from artist “Asaka” isn’t all too bad to listen too, but the ending theme is definitely interesting with it’s surreal effects and imagery used and plus the new song from well known signer Konomi Suzuki is pretty good. Other than the sexual jokes and fan-service the show doesn’t seem like all that bad of a scientific, alternate universe, time-jumping, mystery series to check out but it’s first four episodes didn’t really give out a great first impression yet much like with “Steins:Gate” I’m sure the story needs to be fleshed out more to get better. I’ll stick with it for now but if it doesn’t get a great hook by it’s half-way point then consider this lost in the quantum realm. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.com, VRV, Funimation Now and Hulu with English dubbed episodes streaming on both Crunchyroll and Funimation and has been licensed by Funimation. — Isekai Quartet — Based on characters from the series “Konosuba”, “Re:Zero”, “Overlord”, and “Youjo Senki: The Saga of Tanya the Evil” Animated by Studio Pu Yukai (Kaijuu Girls, also various super-deformed shorts based on Kadokawa anime) Directed and Written by Minoru Ashina (Kaijuu Girls) So speaking of over-saturation of “isekai” anime now it seems like they are running out of ideas and merging already established characters into one series! It’s like the “Isekai Cinematic Universe!” However this is really not a series that should be taken seriously and it is a “super-deformed” comedy anime after all. The set up in this is each of the main cast of the four above mentioned series all get a mysterious red button and when they push it they all warp to yet another alternate dimension that apparently looks like a typical Japanese high school and then they are somehow all forced to attend school classes with each other and pretty much hilarity ensues when each of the cast members come in conflict with each other. Now if you have watched those other “chibi” shorts that were aired online through Kadokawa’s Youtube channel, and some even on Crunchyroll, then these episodes are very similar and also each episode is only just around 10 minutes long. The series style is presented fairly similar to “South Park” with very basic, almost like “flash web”, animations and nothing really all too flashy with effects and designs. The opening theme is somewhat fun and catchy but nothing too special although for the ending they turned Emilia (R:Z), Tanya (YS), Aqua (KS) and Albedo (OL) into 16-bit chibi versions and made them into a quasi-idol group! At least it’s pretty cool they brought back all of each series voice actors to reprise their roles and even used some of the series original soundtrack during some scenes. What’s also crazy is that both Crunchyroll and Funimation are English dubbing this series and used all of the original dub voice actors to reprise their roles and it’s pretty nuts that two series were done at Funimation in Texas and the other two were done in California! Personally the only people that really should be watching this series are ones that have already seen all episodes of each of the four established series because this immediately assumes you already know these characters and what they have already done in their respected anime. If you’ve only seen like one or two of the four series then do not bother. I’ve of course personally watched all said series, I don’t think this is going to be an all too rememberable one but it’s not all too bad to watch along side other “isekai” or similar anime you are checking out. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.com, VRV, Funimation Now and Hulu with English dubbed episodes streaming on both Crunchyroll and Funimation and has been licensed by Funimation. — Shoumetsu Toshi — AKA: “Afterlost” Based on the mobile game from Wright Flyer Studios and GREE Animated by Madhouse (Boogiepop and Others, Overlord, Hunter x Hunter, One Punch Man 1st Season) Directed by Shigeyuki Miya (Onihei, Blood Lad, Supernatural) Written by Shingo Irie (Sakura Quest, All Out!!, Kuroko no Baske) Of course studio Madhouse is a pure legend when it comes to producing anime series and they have done some of the best and most rememberable series ever made (even still getting goosebumps just thinking about “Hunter x Hunter”) and then when I checked into their newest series I just said “what the f**k is this!?”. Hell, I think this is the worst anime Madhouse has made since “Magical Warfare” in 2014! So the situation for this series is that sometime a large chunk of the Tokyo metropolis just vanishes one day and then they name this area “The Lost”, yet the incident had one sole survivor: a young teen girl named Yuki. She then meets up with a courier and smuggler named Takuya and joins up in order to solve the mystery behind the creation of “The Lost” yet when they race down the highways on Takuya’s scooter they battle against the “Tamashi” (or souls) whom are spiritual supernatural beings yet Yuki is able to summon one which is in the form of her guardian and also is able to shoot multiple magical pistols against foes. Then the story just throws at you stuff that I think assumes you have already played the mobile game but I really don’t believe the original material has even left the shores of Japan and without it it’s a confusing mess. The show’s quality is all over the place in this and almost seems like I’m watching a half-assed mid-2000’s anime, there are some scenes that look decent enough with some ok animation and effects but then there will be scenes that look like pure crap and with really mediocre CG effects to boot. Also pretty wild the anime even got well known music composer Kenji Kawai to do the soundtrack and surprised he even got on this project. Just take my advice and do not bother with this series and really think it’s only made for the fans of the mobile game, plus GREE shut down all previous titles released overseas so we’re mostly likely not going to ever see the game stateside. The anime is currently streaming on Funimation Now and Hulu with English dubbed episodes and has been licensed by Funimation. — Sarazanmai — Animated by MAPPA (Dororo, Banana Fish, Yuuri!!! on Ice, Inuyashiki) and Lapin Track (Endride) Directed by Nobuyuki Takeuchi (“Fireworks”) and Kunihiko Ikuhara (much of the 90’s Sailor Moon series, Revolutionary Girl Utena, Penguindrum) Written by Kunihiko Ikuhara and Teruko Utsumi Hold onto your butts cuz this one’s gonna get weird! I’m sure you have seen at least one Ikuhara work sometime in your anime experiences and you probably already know that he deals with LGBT aspects in each of titles he works with but this one I think is the most bizarre and surreal anime he has made yet. So remember the first time you have seen the classic and funky rockin’ Gainax anime “FLCL” and I’m sure you flipped out when “that thing” happened near the end of the very first episode (and seriously if you have not seen FLCL, please do yourself a favor and do so ASAP), well take that freaky funkiness and times it by 50 cuz that’s what it felt like experiencing for the first time with this one. The story is really not going to make too much sense but I’ll try my best to give it in a nutshell: three high school boys just so happened to get involved in a dilemma dealing with “kappa zombies” (and if don’t know what a “kappa” is just Google it) and must abolish the desire of these zombies in order to rid it of it’s existence and the only way to do that is to extract it’s essence from a special organ located inside it’s anus! The three boys transform into kappa creature versions of themselves from the kappa prince of Asakusa, by literally eating them and pooping them out, and “fight” the zombie in order to extract the essence, once completed they have to “purify” it by revealing a secret one of the boys have been keeping to themselves and then shoot it back to the kappa prince so it’s devoured for good. I’m not 100% if that’s all accurate and I’m pretty much writing this off the top of my head but I believe that’s the general gist of the story. The three kappa boys are pretty interesting where one cross dresses as his favorite female news host on Japanese TV, the other is the younger brother of a yakuza gangster and the last is, let’s just say, more becoming open to his sexualities. Then there’s the handsome “otter cops” which seem to be creating the “zombies” from certain delinquents they find on the Tokyo streets, and they sing and dance like male strippers. And “Garfield” is in this! Hellz yeah!! Ok, it’s not really Garfield but he’s just like the famous fat cat and also tends to eat a lot. Ikuhara-san is typically known for creating these highly stylized and very gorgeously animated sequences that are used repeatedly in each episode and the ones featured in this are no exception and this is the first Ikuhara series I’ve seen that uses musical numbers in each episode. Also will definitely say that both animation studio parties are doing utterly fantastic work on all of the art and animation in each episode and doing an amazing job on recreating much of the sights around the Asakusa ward of Tokyo. Both of the opening and ending themes are also highly amazingly done too especially the ending where they took real-life photos of the Asakusa area and placed these cool light beam special effects in each shot and the new song from “The Peggies” really makes it shine bright. I know this series is not going to fly all to right with everyone and each persons mileage on this will vary, yet despite it’s overall weirdness and LGBT overtones I’d say this series is really worth a look and I guarantee the first couple episodes will be a complete wild ride to experience. Damn not sure how the remaining planned 11 episodes are going to be but I’ll punch in my season ticket for the rest of this one. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.com and VRV with English dubbed episodes streaming on Funimation Now. *** New Seasons and Continuing Series *** — One Punch Man Season 2 — Let’s just get this out of the way: YES!! The new episodes are good! Sure, they don’t have all of the same flash and flair as the earlier Studio Madhouse produced anime and the visuals shown during the first four episodes aren’t 100% perfect but was this all worth the nearly 4 year wait for more material? I’d definitely agree. The new season practically picks up where the 1st season just left off however it doesn’t really need much knowledge of the past series to get into it and does do a quick introduction to the main cast as a nice refresher and the past stories of the 1st season aren’t really brought up too much. The main foe in this one is neither a human extinction level threat nor a maniacal alien force (although there are more of those) but just another human with highly intense martial arts skills named “Garou” (or Wolf) that actually wants to be considered as a “monster”. Also great to see the story is still heavily tied with the manga series and still has it’s super fun and really hilarious situations as in the last series as well as it’s signature brutally badass ones. Lastly is damn awesome to have J-rock super-band “JAM Project” come back to do another epic rocking opening theme, yet just like the new episodes it doesn’t have the same visual impact of the older amazeballs 1st opening but I think it’s just as fun and enjoyable, also love Saitama’s “change” at the end of it. The new ending theme also isn’t as visually strong as the 1st series one and sadly isn’t really all that rememberable. Overall I really believe J.C. Staff is pulling no punches on producing the new season and I’m sure is getting their own “S-Class” team of animators and artists to create the best work they can muster for this series and really praying they will pull this off successfully by it’s conclusion however it’s unknown how many episodes there will be of the new season. The anime is currently exclusively streaming on Hulu in the U.S. and on Crunchyroll.com but only in UK and Europe and just like with the last season the series has already been licensed by VIZ. ** Important personal note: I do not subscribe to Hulu and as I mentioned above I am not downloading this non-legally so this is all I’m going to talk about for a while. I’m really hoping the new season will also be airing English dubbed on Cartoon Network’s Toonami pretty soon, the 1st season did all air on it I believe last year and really love to hopefully finish the rest of the series by the end of 2019. — Bungou Stray Dogs Season 3 — As I mentioned before you do not have to watch the “Dead Apple” movie to get into the newest season (although still not all that bad of a movie to check out) but now I’m more thinking this new season is really much more for the fans of the manga and even I’m getting lost in what is going on here. The start of the new series is a flashback story that follows Osamu Dazai when he was a member of “Port Mafia” as well as going into the origins of Chuya Nakahara but then goes into characters and situations that I’m sure only experienced manga readers will recognize and makes it hard to swallow in for anime-only watchers. After the 3-episode prequel arc the story shifts to Fyodor Dostoyevsky who is the head of the group “Rats in the House of the Dead” (that’s pretty badass) and seems to be the main antagonist of the new season although it’s not clear on what his main powers are. Studio Bones’ overall quality and animation are still showing on point for the new season and even seems more visually stronger than the past previous seasons with lots of great effects and artistic shots. The new opening tune from j-rockers “Granrodeo” is just as good as their past work to the series but I don’t think it’s visuals are as great as the past opening sequences and has a bunch of mediocre panning CG shots, at least the ending theme has some pretty nice visuals and the new song from “Luck Life” is really not all that bad. It’s still much up in the air on how the rest of the new season will be like and just like the last two is only set for a 12 episode run yet really hoping to see some pretty amazing and badass moments out of it just as long as I don’t get all too confused on what is really going on. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.com and VRV as well as the past two seasons and the movie. — Raising of the Shield Hero — We are now at the 1st season’s halfway mark and it’s pretty sad that even in fantasy “isekai” worlds that “fake news” can be made and the empire is still wanting to make Naofumi and crew into the “bad guys” all over the world’s population, yet just now they have the “Queen of the Filolials”, Fitoria, as an ally and that’s sure going to make their travels more interesting. Is it the best “isekai” anime ever made? No. Is it the best “isekai” anime airing now? Yes and I still think Kinema Citrus is doing a pretty fine job with the series although the story does have it’s ups and downs but is overall fairly enjoyable. Also of course we have a new opening and ending theme for the new Spring season and personally I think they are both just as good and visually powerful as their earlier winter season ones although I’m not a real big fan of “MADKID”. Hopefully the rest of the season will not disappoint me like another “isekai” series I was recently watching, I’m staring at you Mr. Slime, but just hoping this will be stopping on a great and rememberable note. The anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.com, VRV and Funimation Now with English dubbed episodes streaming on Crunchyroll and Funimation. — Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure Part 5 — Not to spoil here but we now have identity of the user of “King Crimson” and it’s becoming way more nuttier than I expected, sheesh! Also the user of “Metallica” is pretty bad ass although his stand powers really don’t make too much sense in human biological terms unless these guys are eating a shit-ton of iron in their diets. Just sucks the last real episode ended on a pretty damn brutal cliffhanger and then the next following episode turned out to be a freaking recap episode! Come on guys!! Also a huge bummer that this will be the final cour of episodes for this season although really not sure if they will be finishing the full manga storyline arc by the Spring season’s end. Anime’s streaming on Crunchyroll.com and VRV. — Black Clover — Again keep in mind that I’m only watching this on Toonami and they are just on the previous Winter season episodes. After the new, pretty fun and really visually impressive, opening and ending themes there isn’t all too much going on in the story and hate to say a bunch of it is mostly filler and even saw a partial recap too although seems like they are setting up for a large magic user tournament and also hearing that Funimation got Johnny Yong Bosch to voice a new character, that’s pretty wild. Also very curious how Vanessa’s new powers will come into play for the next story arc. — Pop Team Epic OVA — This was a 45 minute special (well actually 4 episodes, two voiced by female VAs for Popuko and Pipimi and two voiced by males) of yet more amazing randomness that the series is all loving to bring out in it’s super basic and weird glory. Unfortunately nothing new from “Hellshake Yano”, bummer! I was really surprised to see one part where they used opening scene footage from Final Fantasy XV however they placed big CG model heads of the two girls on the four main cast members of the game! I’m sure they used a modded PC version of the game to shoot that but also hoping they got permission from Square/Enix to use it! Also oddly enough I actually watched this English dubbed and not the Japanese version because I have never heard any of the English dubbed episodes myself and being that I’m paying for Funimation now I just had to give it a shot and honestly I thought they did a pretty fun and fantastic job with the VO work. ** Lastly want to bring note 1st: My impressions of the new Attack on Titan season continuation will be posted next month cuz it just literally started and 2nd that my impressions of “Dororo” will be put on hold until whenever I finish the rest of the 24 episode series which I’m hoping will finish by the end of the year. Yet on the flip-side starting this month I’m going to finish the older anime “Pumpkin Scissors” but will only write my final impressions of it when I watch the end of the series hopefully by the end of June, I did watch the first 12 episodes when Funimation was streaming their older series on Crunchyroll.

this generally includes anything that i don't consider a "full length" movie, series, or OVA; like 45 mins or less, or if it's an addition to a series that i've already got on MAL • Blame! Prologue i mean, it's 2007 CGI 4/10
