Last Exile
Gave me some serious Gankutsuou vibes, but duh, it was made by the same company. I really liked it, although it did not live completely up to my expectations. Still, its ability to totally immerse me in its world is something pretty rare. It's probably right up there with Terra e as an epic space/flying ship adventure. I mean, the ending was rushed and it focused too much on teenage melodrama in the middle, but somewhere I got swept up in it.
Hakkenden
I probably would not watch this if for the fact that it's pretty much fujobait. I mean, the colors and background are rather lovely, although the story is a little bland (even for a story that is driven by character's relationships). It reminds me of some of those mid or early 2000's shoujos (perhaps Fushigi Yuugi, but that's a bad example). What I'm trying to say is that the story telling has a rather dated feel to it, something that makes it a bit nostalgic.
I'd probably like this show more if I was younger, although I do still like it. It's okay, just okay. But I'm still interested in the sequel because it does have it's moments.
Uchoten Kazouku (ep. 1-5)
This series really enchants me. It's wacky and bittersweet and magical. It's like a theme park that I've always wanted to go to, except, instead of packed lines and soaring temperatures, it's a place I can continue to find mysterious and wonderful things in. This is just what it is to me.
Gatchaman Crowds (ep. 1-5)
At first, I wasn't sure about his one. I mean, super hero anime isn't really my thing (I still haven't finished T&B), but I gave it a chance and I'm glad I did. Still, I'm not sure what to expect from this (expect maybe more Rui suffering). I can't explain why I like this one, perhaps it's my faith in Kenji Nakamura as a director. Usually I know what to expect, or rather what grade I'm going to give an anime this far in, but this one is an exception. I can't really decide exactly how I feel about it just yet.
Free! (ep.1-5)
Looks like we all sold out on this one.
Magi (ep. 1-13)
This is a typical shounen, which may be why I like it so much. It doesn't try to be overtly angsty or dark and edgy but it still has a very human feel to it. I've heard it people say that it was childish, and yes, it's exactly that, but not in a bad way. It still has all the makings of an action/adventure show and even though the story progresses very quickly, it still feels like there's still so much to discover. That's why this series will probably revive my hope in the shounen genre.
