Now Playing:
- Sad to say I haven't really been playing any games during the whole month of July mainly due to either very hot and shitty weather (my game consoles act weird when my block AC unit is on so I tend to avoid playing them) or just the general bullshit life throws at you. Right now I'm more set on finishing my 2nd run for "Borderlands 2" and then go into the newest DLC addon that came out a couple months back, in addition been playing the newer "Need of Speed Most Wanted" (which came out last year) and I'm actually now #3 on the wanted lists and also like to eventually finish up "The Last of Us" (goddamnit Ellie! Shoot!!). However I definately know August is at least bringing slightly cooler temparatures here and also going to be a lot more interesting for what I have planned to buy out:
Games to Buy in August:
- Dragon's Crown (08/06) - The newest fantasy sidescrolling action RPG/lootfest from the super artistic bros from Vanillaware and this one looks freaking phenomenal. I know the art style of the game is pretty over-exaggerated and isn't the most realistic out there (especially them sorceress titties, daaaammmnnn!) but all it comes down to is how fun the game is to play and this really looks way damn fun, especially with 4-player online co-op. IGN recently scored it an 8.5/10 with 8's and 9's from other game review fronts and the PS3 version retails for $50 which is a little plus.
- Tales of Xillia (08/06) - My most anticipated Tales game to play since Vesperia back on the XB360. I did personally buy Tales of Graces F earlier however in that game I wasn't really much into the story, charactors and it's battle system (hell, it had a 4-hour long tutorial where you had to play as dinky kid versions of the main charactors). Honestly I think the only reason I bought Graces was to help "fund" Namco/Bandai for the U.S. release of Xillia (who also will be releasing the sequel next year). Also unlike Graces this game was especially made for the PS3 so at least the visuals will be whole lot better. The Japanese release almost scored a perfect rating (39/40) from their highest respected gaming magazine Famitsu and I have high hopes this game will be awesome to play.
- DuckTales Remastered (08/13) - DUCK TALES! WHOO HOO!! WayForward, makers of other 2D gaming awesomeness like Contra 4, really went all out on reimagining the classic Capcom NES game and even got all of the original cartoon show voices to do the game's cutscenes. Now the question is how is the remastered soundtrack going to go up against it's timeless chip-tune counterparts.
- Stealth Inc: A Clone in the Dark (out now) - This indie game caught my eye when Sony was showing off their "Play" game lineup for this summer, which also includes Duck Tales above, and it's like "Super Meat Boy" meets "Splinter Cell" and you stick to the 2D shadows to get past turrets, lazer beams and robots. The game even harrasses you whenever you die via wall messages. It is only a $10 download purchase and I think it's definately something not to pass up.
On the fence:
- Splinter Cell: Blacklist (08/20) - The last Fisher stealth romp really wasn't the best of the series, hell I think it's the 2nd worst of them, but Ubisoft went back to the drawing board and got it more redefined for this time around but at one large sacrifice: Sam isn't voiced by Michael Ironside. Now they have someone that sounds like he's in his late 20's but it's supposed to take place after the events of Conviction. Also they say this is the biggest SplintCell game ever but for this one I'll let the reviews do the talking before I get back into the signature three-eyed googles.
- Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F (08/27) - I really think SEGA has massive balls to release this in the U.S. but honestly power to them to get this out overshores. I tried the demo that was released over PSN earlier and I had a pretty fun time with it, sure I can perfectly handle the easy versions of the songs but all the normal difficulty songs easily kicks my finger's ass. Also did they really have to release this on disc? I don't even know if I feel comfortable buying a copy at Best Buy or whereever and bringing to the sales counter a game with a goofy-looking anime chick with aqua blue pig-tailed hair on the cover. :p A downloadable version for $10 cheaper would be nice! (Although it retails for $50). I may eventually get it but I don't have a high demand to play it yet.
- Killer Is Dead (08/27) - The latest in stylized action WTF-ery from famed game designer SUDA51 and seems to hark back to the surreal art designs from his older Gamecube game "Killer 7". I'm still not sure what I'll be expecting or what to make of it but again it depends on the reviews and what other people think.
- Lost Planet 3 (08/27) - A prequel to the original Capcom snow planet mecha game but it's not developed by them and instead gone through a western developer Spark Unlimited (who made such gaming masterpieces as "Legendary" and "Turning Point: Fall of Liberty" *barf!*). The last game was more multi-player based but this one is now back to it's single-player story driven roots however this really, and I mean really has to be f**king impressive for me to buy it.
