This is the Two-hundred-and-thirty-eighth week of using the "Perfect Anime Girl Sheet". Notice: This Blog may contain Unmarked Spoilers.
*Panting, Topaz finally makes it up to Kusunoki. She's currently arguing with a person behind a wall of glass as he approaches.*
: Listen, I don't care if I don't have the invitation or not! I DESERVE to enter this stupid competition!
*The man speaks in a nasally voice.*
Man behind counter: Sorry ma'am, we're not responsible if you lose your ticket to get in. It's in the rules.
: *furious* IF YOU DON'T LET ME IN, I'LL JUST HAVE TO BEAT YOU TO BE ABLE!
Man behind counter: If you strike or injure me in any way, it'll disqualify you both for this year's competition as well as future years. In addition, unsanctioned fighting such as that would be unsporting and would also disqualify you and put a mark on your record. It's in the rules.
*pant pant* Kusu- *pant* noki....
: What do you want *glare*.
I *pant* brought your *pant* ticket... *holds it up.*
: AHA! I must have dropped it when you ran into me. *Kusunoki takes the invitation from Topaz and waves it in front of the guy's face.* SEE! I knew that I had an invitation somewhere!
Man behind counter: Finally, our last competitor is here.
: Thanks Ke-Topaz, you really saved me-
Man behind counter: *speaking to someone behind the scenes* Get the bracket ready, we have one "Emperortopaz" entering the battles.
: What?
WHAT?!
Man behind counter: Obviously this young maiden was able to beat you up for the invitation, Kusunoki. And since she brought the invitation back, she's the one that deserves to enter the competition. It's in the rules.
: There is so much wrong with that! Obviously this scrawny MAN is no match for me. It was an accident that lead to him to get the invitation!
Man behind counter: So you admit to LOSING the ticket? Despite your amazing martial arts and training, you were unable to keep an envelope from falling into another person's hands?
: *Gulp*
Man behind counter: It does not depend on if he defeated you in combat or not, your foolish actions have made you lose possession of the invitation and you will now be punished for it. It's in the rules.
: Grrr. Wait, what would happen if I kicked Topaz in the face and took the ticket back?
I am against this idea!
Man behind counter: Once again, Kusunoki, you're threatening violence within the arena. In addition, since Topaz has ALREADY brought the ticket to my attention and we've put her into the brackets even if you get the envelope back it would be too late. It's in the rules.
: So you're saying that you'll allow a MAN, who has NO MARTIAL ARTS EXPERIENCE, to enter the ALL-GIRL'S tournament instead of me?
Man behind counter: It's in the rules.
But I'm a guy!
Man behind counter: We accept any and all reverse traps. In fact, there's actually a few others that had initially believed that they were male as well. As long as you have a ticket you're fighting. It's in the rules.
*sigh* Well, I guess I'm fighting since this seems to be a scripted event. But the way I am now I won't even make it past the first fight!
Man behind counter: I'll tell you what, I'll contact the previous two champions to see if they can train you.
*He walks into the backroom to check. Meanwhile, Kusunoki glares at Topaz menacingly.*
: You'd better win, you know...
I-I'll try...
*The man soon returns. He scribbles on a note and hands it to Topaz*
Man behind counter: Here you go, the address for the previous year's champion. She was surprised that we had contacted her, usually champions aren't called back to give others a fighting chance (It's in the rules). Still, it's too bad that the champion before that, Momoyo, was unable to return my calls.
Awww, I would have loved to get beaten up bytrained by her. *Examines note* Hmm, I don't know who this would be, I'd better leave now to get in as much training as I can.
*Topaz hurries off. Unknown to him two shadows watch him leave.*
???: Ehehe, this tournament will be the perfect chance to finish Topaz off for good! Not only that- wait, why are you so depressed?
???: For one, it's getting complicated to talk when we don't know which one of us is speaking. Can't we get nicknames or something like the last group of evil people?
???: That is indeed a good idea. Now, my name shall be... Zonde. Yeah, Zonde. While you can... be called... *thinks* Image-chan. And the third member of our group is Techie. There, I have names for us three.
Image-chan: I suppose that name is better than nothing *sigh*. Anyway, are we sure that Topaz won't summon some girl to attack like last time. You DO know that I'm not a skilled fighter, right?
Zonde: I think that summoning is against the rules, though I'll check to make sure. As for your skills... *rustles in her pockets until she pulls out a paintbrush.* Here we go! I'm lucky that the company I used to work for had enough money to purchase this.
Image-chan: What's that?
Zonde: This is apparently a magical brush. With it, you can pull the feelings out of a person and create a summon from it.
Image-chan: Sounds bogus, it reminds me too much of a stupid Magical Girls show for kids! But wait, you said that summoning was illegal. Won't that disqualify me or something?
Zonde: Perhaps, but as long as you stay in the tournament long enough to defeat Topaz with it that won't matter. Besides, we're bad guys. Why should we care about RULES?
Image-chan: Hey, you're the only "demon" around here!
*Some time passes, and we meet up with Topaz in the middle of the forest. He looks around, confused.*
Hmmm, this is where the note says to meet her, but this is the middle of nowhere...
???: You new pupil? I wait for long time.
I-is someone here? Where are you?
???: It take lot of effort for training, yet you not able find me so easily.
*Topaz looks up as a shadowy figure is hiding in the tree tops.*
I'll do anything you want, just train me for the tournament.
???: You not ready. First, test to make sure. Avoid these!
A test? Wait, what am I supposed to dodge!
*Thousands of wood blocks fall from the sky tied to the trees.*
That answers my question *ducks and covers head with arms. The blocks go over his head.*
???: Note to self: make test harder, use longer rope. Now is time for next exam.
*The figure jumps ahead, with Topaz following behind. Soon they approach a clearing with wood practice dummies.*
???: Next test is to beat up dummies. I should warn, they VERY strong!
*The dummies creak to life and assume their stances.*
If I knew how to beat up this many people, I wouldn't have to go into training!
???: You question my methods? No problem, perhaps you like to face ME instead!
*The shadowy figure acrobatically leaps down the tall trees, revealing her to be a dark-skinned Chinese girl.*
Wait a minute, I know who you are now! And if I can, I'd like to do a blog on you.
???: You want... blog? Blog tasty?
Unfortunately it isn't a food, it's an online thing. I talk about your strong points and give you a grade.
???: Online thing? Like what Chisame do? No thanks, I no like dressing up frilly. I also no good at grades. But strong points are good to talk about, I accept you doing blog.
Well then everyone, it looks like...
Note that her name can also be translated as "Gǔ Fēi", but the "official" translation is Ku Fei. I also won't be using accents and such in her name during the blog proper (as, due to not having a number pad, it's hard for me to do so).
: Do not worry as I no good at some words too.
Head
Hair: First off is Ku's hair. Her hair is blonde and kept up, usually in pigtails that extend upward with one on each side of the back of her head. It's not ALL of her hair however, as she does have hair going down the back of her head. It's more that she has a bit pulled and tied for her tails. Occasionally she'll wear cute round balls to keep her pigtails from coming loose (the balls do make her look panda-like, as if they were her ears). The hair on the back of her head changes with which adaptation you're looking at, but it's never past her shoulders. Going towards the front her sidecurls ARE longer than her shoulders, not often by much. She also has a hime cut! Sort of, at least; her bangs are cut straight but for a "true" hime cut she probably has too little hair, at least on occasion. Her more "comedic" moments might give her a hime cut. Finally, as a Chinese girl she also has her hair up in odango on occasion.
I'm not really a big fan of Ku's hair. For one, while I appreciate the look of a dark skinned girl with light hair, I'm not the biggest fan of blond hair in general (it's alright, but I wouldn't prefer it). I'm also not a big fan of this hair style. As I've said, many times, I prefer hair to be free and flowing, not tied up. There are even times when Ku looks like she has leaves in her hair, but it's actually her tails. Thus, while there's nothing really bad about her hair it really doesn't fit my preferences well, explaining the low score.
Grade: C
Eyes: Ku's eyes are different as they're more pentagonal than circular. They nearly come to a point in the center and you can see that they're house-shaped. At least in some formats, at least (it's not as pronounced in the manga). In addition, the only parts of Ku's eyes that are really outlined are the top and outer edges. On the outer edge she also has a somewhat-long eyelash in the corner of her eye. Being that it's more design-y and is the only eyelash it doesn't bother me; it does add a bit of necessary femininity to her face. They're also a pretty nice shade of green, at least depending on the media you're watching (the actual color changes, but it's usually green). Finally, there's also the fact that occasionally Ku doesn't realize something or is dumb in some aspect, leading her eyes to become white circles. That makes her look like she's spacing out (as she likely is) and it's comedic so I won't complain.
Grade: B-
Face: Negima has a lot of nice faces and art, and Ku Fei is no exception. She's relatively cute and has some pretty amusing faces (as I said earlier, I like when she's spacing out or confused). She also has small features which is always a plus. Everything isn't great though, as on occasion she does seem to show off her fang. It fits with her cat-like mouth so I can't complain too much. I do like her mouth though, it's not exaggerated too much but gives off a nice feline look.
Grade: A-
Body
Build: Ku Fei's official measurements are that she's 151 cm tall and her three measurements are 78/56/80. As you can see, she's pretty short (she's under 5'; still, this does make her taller than her 140 cm male teacher) as well as having a somewhat-loli body. Not ENTIRELY loli of course, but she's understandably build like a middle school student. She's slender though, and her body is pretty nice. Her butt is also bigger than her bust as well, making her waist and hips more pronounced. Don't let her petite body surprise you though, she is a very strong school girl. In addition, she has some definition but she's not overly muscular which I approve of. She just has low sex appeal for my tastes.
Oh, and since I didn't mention it before, Ku has dark skin. I know I rarely talk about dark-skinned girls but that's more due to how rare they are rather than any other reason.
Grade: C
Breasts: As said before, Ku has a fairly modest chest at 78 cm. She might look more average due to her size, and she's certainly not flat. It's just that she's unimpressive for my tastes. It also doesn't help that two characters she's often seen with, Kaede and Mana, both have breasts over 10 cm larger than Ku (and their tall, mature bodies don't help much either).
Grade: C
Clothes: At first Ku's usual outfit is the school uniform for Mahora Academy. It consists of a white blouse, burgundy vest, and plaid skirt. There's also a thin ribbon around her neck. Her "winter" uniform is seen on occasion which has a blazer instead of her vest. With this outfit she also wears Chinese flat shoes with no socks.
Of course, as the "token" Chinese girl Ku wears a Chinese dress during certain points. One of these includes when they were figuring out what to do as a class during a school festival, where Ku wears an outfit that looks like a Chinese maid (complete with headdress, though I also like her nylon-like thighhighs). She also wears a similar outfit when working as a waitress, though sadly without the headdress or leggings. As the series becomes more of a "battle" series we see Ku in her casual wear more and more. As a whole she likes "traditional" outfits, one of which consists of a mini-shirt over a long-sleeved China dress with split sides up to her waist with thighhighs as well. I figure that this has some kind of name, but I'm an idiot. She also wears a few other varieties of China dresses such as a long sleeved one or one adorned with the "Chao Bao Zi" logo on it. Either way, she also tends to wear thighhighs, making her legs look shapelier.
There's also a few other minor outfits that Ku wears. For one, she wears a gym uniform during a volleyball battle. It's just a plain shirt with the school insignia on the chest and a pair of shorts, nothing all that spectacular (she needed bloomers). She also has a two-piece swimsuit, though it's a bit unusual. The top for one covers most of her chest and even her neck while the bottom is much thinner and has rings on the side. The bottoms fine, but the top does bother me. Finally, she wears a yukata during the class trip.
Grade: B
Mind
Personality: Ku is, as is the theme for this month (or at least the past week and next week), a skilled martial artist. She uses multiple Chinese styles and is part of the Chinese Martial Arts Study Club at Mahora Academy. She's won the yearly competition the year before the story begins and thus has many people both challenging and asking her to tutor her in the series (the challengers are of course defeated easily). She also eventually trains Negi, though her initial idea of using old anime and Kung-fu movies wasn't a very good method. Out of the four main "fighters" in 3A, Ku is actually the weakest. Not because she's not powerful, it's more that she's not very good at incorporating ki or magic into her attacks. She's essentially the closest the manga has to "brute strength", at least as far as the girls are concerned. She's also pretty determined, going as far as to defeat someone in a tournament when she had a broken arm. In fact, in one display of both power and strength she destroyed a mountain that she was STANDING ON.
Another major feature of Ku is that she's carefree as well as air-headed. She's also open about her Chinese nationality as well, though it isn't hard to tell that she's a foreigner due to her poor grasp on Japanese. In the English translation she speaks in broken English, but the Japanese have her tend to end sentences in -Aru (which usually means that the character speaks in a Chinese accent). Because of her trouble with language she tends to do very poorly in school. Her grades suffer and she's a part of the Baka Rangers (the five characters with the lowest grades). Her color is "Yellow". That said, Ku is also very cheerful when needed and would help others out. Her best friend is likely her classmate Chao, who she also works for out of class (as a waitress to her food cart "Chao Bao Zi"). She also likes to eat her cooking, especially the nikuman/steamed buns.
If you're a fan of Akumatsu's work, you can definitely see that Ku is based off of Kaolla Su from Love Hina. Both are dark-skinned blonde foreigners and both have a certain style of speaking as well as being hyper. They are pretty different otherwise, with Su being more of a technological genius while Ku is strong but pretty dense.
As a final note, one interesting thing about Ku is that she has a few voice actresses. I'm not a big fan of Cynthia Cranz (who did the English dub) as she makes Ku seem older and she doesn't have as much of an accent as I'd expect her to. Hazuki's voice wasn't too bad, but she had to stop voicing Ku to pursue marriage and studies. For the latest OVA and the movie Ku was voiced by Kana Asumi instead. I like Kana Asumi though, and she has a hyper enough voice to do Ku well.
Grade: B
Libido: Ku only really likes "strong" men, meaning that if you want to be with her you'd better be prepared to defeat her in combat. Because of this, and possibly due to spending so much training him, she gets a minor crush on Negi. It's not one of the stronger crushes on him, but it is still there. At one point she even "jokes" about him becoming her husband, but quickly says that she was kidding. She does step aside for others, though she still sees him for a yearly battle.
Grade: B
Age: Ku is between 14 and 15 as the story progresses. To be exact, she was born on March 16th in 1989 and the series takes place in 2004 (or so).
Grade: C
Total Grades: 62
Average score: 6.9
Final Grade: B-
: Better grade than me usually receive. Though body-wise it is disappointing that you no speak more about my strength.
Still, it is a good score. I hadn't realized that I liked Ku so much until I started to do this blog. She's a great character but a major problem is that Negima is FULL of great characters, many of which I like more than her.
: It is good you are liking me now. I will be pushing you hard with training!
But I...
: Break blog time is over, time for hard work now!
Can't we at least do it in a montage?
: Hmmm, we no have time for proper training, so it better to have quick montage I agree yes.
*Ku trains Topaz through vigorous tasks to the sound of epic 80's montage music.*
*Time passes*
: Topaz! You never guessing what! The names of other competitors is here!
*Ku then rolls out a piece of paper for him to see.*
Upper Right Bracket:
Zonde vs. Houki Shinonono
Emperortopaz vs. Chie Satonaka
Upper Left Bracket:
Asuna Kagurazaka vs. Setsuna Sakurazaki
Musubi vs. Yukie Mayuzumi
Lower Right Bracket:
Suguha Kirigaya vs. Tomoyo Sakagami
Sen Yarizui vs. Itsuki Myoudouin
Lower Left Bracket
Image-chan vs. Morgiana
Kazuko Kawakami vs. Rana Linchen
Hmm, it looks like the competition will be tough for me.
: Do not worry, me sure that, with all training, you will win. After all, have strong new ability!
That is true, I just have to trust in my own power... *Topaz's arm pulses with energy.*
