Indie video games

OOOOOOOH I cannot WAIT for PAX this year!!!! I'm so sos os sososososoo excited about it. You know, in like an understated way. It's ok, I guess. (^_^). For me, gaming conventions are DEFINITELY about indie games rather than the larger ones (usually - not for Elder Scrolls related items though, obviously). And on that note, do you have a kind of favourite set or list of indie games? Personally, my favourite in the last 5 years is Cave Story, but that's the Portal of indie games, so I don't know that is too easy an answer. Another kind of ambiguously indie current favourite of mine is N+ (NOT current for anyone else in the world, just for me :P). Lastly, one of my favourite indie games of all time is Since I am in a list making mood, I will also ask if there are any indie games you are looking forward to playing (at some point)? Highest on my list are: Darwinia - a RTT/RTS within a computer environment that simulates artificial intelligence for A.I. polygons. This world, Darwinia, has been infected by a computer virus, and research is continuously being corrupted and used up. Most of the game sites I follow are enthusiastic about it and many have mentioned that the soundtrack is particularly good, which is extremely important to me. A good soundtrack can completely make a game for me, even if the game is just so-so. :) and Braid - Again, potentially amazing soundtrack (very important!) - lots of hype there and the world just LOOKS COOL! The art is really beautiful for an indie game, the story was influenced by works I either like/love or have wanted to read and have great concepts behind them. It just looks like an all around solid, intelligent game that I would really enjoy. I am also a bit of a sucker for a good puzzle game... ^_^ I also became recently intrigued by: Shattered Galaxy - a MMORTS where you fight battles to gain influence in one small corner of a much larger war. The thing that interests me is that they way in which you "win" these small battles directly influences not only your own ranking, but your whole unit and even more interesting is that you cannot expect to oversee every aspect of HOW the battle is fought. Which is super cool in a RTS sense. Possibly extremely frustrating and annoying, but ultimately potentially challenging and engaging. Botanicula - I like the concept but really I just want to help the environment by playing video games. ^_^ and OctoDad - A friend of my who just returned from E3 was raving about how enjoyable and funny this game was. If it was that much fun & has so much replay value taht there are huge lines to play it - I'm totally in! Quick premise/tag line: Developed by a group of students at DePaul University,(also in conjunction with Young Horses, Inc.), OctoDad is an octopus who is undercover as an average human with a family. The plot revolves around the player, controlling Octodad, attempting to complete various household chores and tasks while maintaining his secret. "Loving Father. Caring Husband. Secret Octopus." It looks and sounds fantastic so for the gamers our there - I recommend it!!
