Pre-Birthday Anime Round Up + Upcoming Additions

It's almost been a year since I have started watching anime and now I have also watched 100 pieces of anime in my Completed selection. There have been some very good shows and movies while there were others that were also good but has some flaws. Let's begin with the shows that I have found to be my personal best: Shows: Azumanga Daioh Baccano! Berserk Clannad ~After Story~ Cowboy Bebop Death Note Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood Nichijou Samurai Champloo Steins;Gate Films: 5 Centimeters Per Second Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance Lupin III: Castle of Cagliostro Macross Plus: Movie Edition Ninja Scroll Princess Mononoke Spirited Away The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya The Girl Who Leapt Through Time The Place Promised In Our Early Days There are some shows that I have rated lower than my enjoyment to balance the argument that others would argue with. Highschool of the Dead and High School DxD are perfect examples, as I have found them to be very enjoyable however they are aimed to a niche audience and the extensive amount of fanservice does not offer the best amusement for others nonetheless the action in HOTD is great and the humour in HDxD is fun if you get the jokes. Here are the list of anime I will be owning in physical form: Angel Beats! (Complete Series + OVA) - Blu-ray Black Lagoon (Season 1 and 2 Complete) - Blu-ray/DVD Combo Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (Complete Season 1) - DVD Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (Complete Season 2/R2) - DVD Ga-Rei: Zero (Complete Series Limited Edition) - Blu-ray/DVD Combo Sword of the Stranger - Blu-ray Tekkon Kinkreet - Blu-ray Welcome to the NHK (Complete Series) - DVD And here are the list of anime I watched online, now in physical form: Berserk Golden Age Arc: I The Egg of the King (Collector's Edition) - Blu-ray/DVD Combo Highschool Of The Dead: Drifters of the Dead OVA - DVD Paprika - Blu-ray UN-GO (Complete Series + OVA) - Blu-ray/DVD Combo I will also be getting some manga to read: Azumanga Daioh - Omnibus Complete Version Highschool Of The Dead - Omnibus Full Colour Volume 1 Neon Genesis Evangelion - Omnibus Volume 3 Now it's time to discuss what shows I have watched over the past month. I have finished all of the shows I have watched online and will now finish off shows from my Xbox (Noein for instance) and from physical copy (Baka & Test Season 1). Azumanga Daioh ~ 9/10 ~ I never thought this show would be that hilarious. Azumanga Daioh follows the lives of a group of friends over the course of three years. We see these people do various things from throwing a shoe over a distance, petting a cat and failing, thinking they are smart but they are actually dum, trying to lose weight but can't and get stalked by a pedo teacher. This show is absolutely random and hilarious. This is also a decade old which makes it a timeless classic that will be remembered forever. The reason why I have not given this a flawless rating is the accidental fanservice that is shown in this. By accidental, I mean the swimming pool and PE episodes as they can make viewers nowadays think 'ecchi' in terms of their figure especially when Kimura (the pedo teacher) keeps popping up and desires their pool water because they have been swimming in it. But other than that, I do recommend this show a lot. BTOOOM! ~ 9/10 ~ An anime about survival and trust where one skilled video game player must survive the real life version of the game he loves. For those who have watched Battle Royale (or Hunger Games for mainstream people) will notice the concept is the same except the only weapons on the island are bombs. This is a pretty cool concept as we see different versions and balanced fights all round the 12 episode series. Honestly, aside from some 'accidental' fanservice elements in the form of Himiko and the sudden end which we get a cliffhanger (as the manga is on-going), this is a very good show to watch and I highly recommend it. There are some plot twists and good character development for the main cast of characters. I will look forward to what else they have to offer. High School DxD: Season 1 ~ 8/10 ~ Did you think HOTD was bad enough? Well then you haven't seen the most ecchiest show so far and High School DxD wins by a heck load with the amount of fanservice this show has to offer. The 12 episode first season follows a perverted teenager Issei who has no luck with women, gets offered to be someone's boyfriend, gets killed by her who turns out to be a fallen angel and wakes up naked in his room with a busty redhead who turns out to be a demon in which he is now also. High School DxD is essentially HOTD except the zombies are replaced with angels vs demons. Honestly I did not expect this show to do as well as HOTD did but in honestly I enjoyed it a lot. The humour presented in this show is actually pretty funny but you have to be in the same shoes as our main character to get the jokes (TL;DR you need to at least be a pervert or have knowledge of men's thoughts). Overall, the voice acting fits the character roles, the plot is there and the music is very good in the OP and ED. I do recommend this show if you like ecchi anime but if you don't then you may not want to watch this one. Macross Plus (Movie Edition and OVA Series) ~ 9/10 ~ I never watched Macross. I was recommended this list of anime to watch back in June and Macross Plus was on the list. After months later, I found this was available on Lovefilm so I decided to rent it. My god Plus is really good for its time. Plus is a sci-fi opera with a mixture of romance and action. In this show, we have old friends who unite and cause arguments every now and then but after one of them ends up in danger the others accept their differences to save their friend. The music in Plus is what me describe this as a sci-fi opera as it is a pivotal plot device to this anime, alongside the planes that are being built. Overall, Macross Plus is a great anime to watch if you want a classic show to run through. There are alternate differences between the OVA and Movie so I recommend to watch both to get the complete enjoyment in this anime. Oreimo [Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai]: Season 1 + OVA ~ 9/10 ~ As I said previously, Oreimo caught my eye a few times but I decided to watch the first season in the end to see whether it would spark my taste. In just 10 seconds, it caught my interest instantly. Great opening, fun cast of characters, funny music in hilarious scenes, addictive to watch and enjoy. After watching the Good End I then continued with the OVA specials as they are technically the official end to the first season. It got better with Kuroneko and Kyosuke becoming one of my favourite characters in anime. There is only one flaw with this shows and we all know who is responsible for this: Kirino's tsundere personality. Honestly as Dazza once said "If only I could punch her in the head", I which I could as well even if she is cute. Highly recommended if you like Kyoto Animation shows and would want something to watch while waiting for more Haruhi or K-On! goodness. And that is it for my latest blog update. I have planned to try and watch the third part of the Berserk Golden Age trilogy as Descent is out soon, but other than that the rest I will watch on DVD!
