Hey, did you know this blog broadcasts to other universes? It's true! And before I start, we're gonna go live to real anime girls! Yes, what do anime (or anime-esque) girls think of my evaluation of their brethren? Let's find out! "This prattle bores me." "You did this entire blog looking over girl's body parts!? What a disgusting pig! You don't see me evaluating your body parts, do you!? What's wrong with you!?" "Um, when are you going to do Upa? I think Upa is very charming!" "Hmm?" "You waste your time judging beauty contests? Why not learn magic instead, like me!? Or gathering research material, or harassing Reimu, or . . ." "Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Look at you pathetic human! Writing essays about cute anime girls, it's almost like you have no life beyond that! Actually, no, that's not right, not 'almost like'. Rather, I say with certainty that you have no life! Where is your dear sweet Ange now, huh? Oh yeah, (whispers text in red that only I can hear) HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!" Ooooookay, that was an eye-opener! (clears throat) Anyways, today's evaluation is for the heroine of a light novel series . . . that I have not read, but I have seen its anime adaptation. The anime was pretty good, all things considered, and my favorite character is the same as most other peoples; the girl who in-series is often referred to as the Flame-Haired Blazing Eyes Crimson Hunter. SHANA-CHAAAAAAAAAN! SHE IS JUST ADORABLE! ^_^ KAWAII-KAWAII-KAWAII-KAWAII-KAWAII-KA- -Yes. She's featured on my list of "Cutest anime, manga, and video game girls as selected by me." Her charm must be fairly high, shouldn't it? Let's find out. Hair: Shana, in her "human" form, has really long straight black hair.By that, I mean it's almost as long as she is tall. She also has a random antenna hair, or "ahoge". In her "Flame Haze" form, her hair is a shimmering red. Her black hair is awesome. It's long and black, hard to beat that! Unfortunately, unlike Akiha, Shana's hair is a little wild, a little unrefined. That, and her red hair form doesn't look as good. But the lack of refinement is the only bad thing I can say, she's got pretty hair! 9/10. Eyes: In her human guise, Shana has large, dark brown eyes. In her Flame Haze guise, the brown is instead red. They have a tsurime edge in some shots. I know this is an unpopular opinion to have, but a dark shade of brown is my favorite eye color. I find them affectionate, and tasty-looking, too. And Shana's eyes are large, affectionate, and just beautiful. She has one of the best eye designs I've ever seen in animation, which is strange, considering that I've criticized the Shana anime's production values! XD Her red eyes don't look bad either, but going from dark brown (I don't like light brown as an eye color) to red is a step down, but in her human form? Her eyes are amazing! 10/10. Face: Shana has a more-youthful-than-usual-by-anime-standards face. Aside from her large eyes, her facial features are minute. The overall face is very rounded. And yet again, I am in awe of an anime girl with a beautiful face! Her face is just adorable! Not only that, she also has one of the sweetest smiles I've seen on an anime girl. That's a huge plus. 10/10. Physique: Shana's physique is, by my estimates, similar to that of an 11 year old girl. She is 141 centimeters (4' 8'') tall, weighs in at 37 kilograms (81.4 pounds), and never went through puberty. Shana is one of those so-called "loli" girls. Not as tiny as, say, a 6 year old girl, but lacks the physical development of an adult women. Both her breasts and buttcheeks are flat. Don't mind the flat chest, but flat behinds are not as enticing. Also, she lacks the musculature of a woman, and do you what that means? Noodle legs! >_< Like I said, this sort of thing is normal for an 11 year old girl, and I suppose I don't also mind her flat belly, but she isn't special in this regard. Still, there is one nice thing about loli girls; they're really easy to pick up and give a hug! Too bad you can't do that to a made-up girl outside of your dreams. 5/10. Fashion: Shana wears a variety of clothes throughout the series. You can typically find her in a school uniform that's a white shirt with green highlights. In the beginning, all she wore was an all-black constume, as well as a "Yogasa" trenchcoat. Aside from that, depending on where in the timeline, Shana also wears a blue school uniform, a pink Chinese dress, a simple red dress, a green dress, and even a formal red-and-black dress at one point. In one of the OVA openings, she sports white clothes. Shana has an eye for fashion! Her school uniforms are cute, the simple red dress is moe incarnate, her casual clothes are cute, her formal dress is elegant. Shana has beautiful clothes! Why can't more girls dress like her in the real world!? 10/10. Voice: In Japanese, her voice is done by Rie Kugimiya. In English, her voice actress was initially Tabitha St. Germain (Better known as Rarity these days), but thanks to English-speaking otakus being entitlement complex-ridden assholes, the dub was dropped by Ocean and only recently got redubbed by Funimation. Her current English voice is by Cherami Leigh. Shana's English voices are actually pretty good, but make Shana sound more like a teenager then someone trapped in pre-adolescence. Also, Rie is currently my favorite Japanese voice actress, so let's go off of her. Shana has a high voice. It's not a girly voice, nor is it rough; it's just a high, somewhat sharp voice. Her Japanese voice carries one of the best performances I've ever heard from a Japanese speaker. Unfortunately, most charm evaluations are not done by the intellectual side of my brain, but rather, my superficial side. And superficially speaking, let's be honest; Shana has a rat-like voice. Not that ratty voices can be bad, it's just not an overly pleasant voice to listen to. Her English voices are not aesthetically superior, either. 5/10. Personality: The MAL page for Shana does a really good job summarizing her personality. As such, since I don't want to tell you any spoilers, I'll go into detail as to why she's my favorite. Everybody goes on and on (and on and on and on . . .) about how she's the ultimate tsundere, and this makes her a love-it-or-hate-it kind of character. I started the series . . . and she was nothing, nothing like a tsundere at all! In the beginning and the prequels, she's almost entirely emotionless! A kuudere! But thanks to character development, she doesn't stay that way forever. Her frustration at trying to adjust to life with humans is what causes her to have "tsun" moments. She never hits a boy without proper provocation, and even then, it's not like she ever sends Yuji Sakai (Her would-be boyfriend) flying to the moon for asinine reasons! XD She's a well-layered tsundere, a warrior who wants to restore balance, a capable fighter still learning the ropes, and yet strangely unaware of how cute she is. I can't say I like her as much as Akiha, or as much as Shion, but I like her a little more than Yuiko Kurugaya, so my final score shall reflect that. 18/20. Miscellaneous: Shana doesn't have a theme song, and doesn't have a visual novel route, sooooo . . . there are also Shana-tan shorts in the anime version. Here, she is smaller, and sillier, but still likable. These bits aren't brilliant, but they're not a waste of effort, either. 6/10. Hair: 9 Eyes: 10 Face: 10 Physique: 5 Fashion: 10 Voice: 5 Personality: 18 Miscellaneous: 6 Overall: 73/90. 81.1 %. B-. Same charm as Yuiko, LOL. Lesson today? Just make sure everything above your neck is lovely, wear flattering clothes, and act like a tsundere within reason, and even I may join your fan club! XD Yet . . . I still have not awarded anyone with a perfect Physique score, nor a perfect Miscellaneous score. Hmm . . . may need two separate evaluations just to nail those.
