Sub Versus Dub, Who Wins?OPINIONS AND SPOILERS WILL PROBABLY BE IN THIS, READ NO FURTHER IF YOU DON'T WANT EITHER OF THOSE. (Picture is not mine, if you want to know where I got it from, click on it.) Do not take any of these opinions seriously, if you wish to discuss them, please do! I'd love to talk about it! This was inspired my my sibling who really loves the dubs and constantly tells me that I "need" to watch them when I don't want to, although I always tell him I don't mind dubs.
There will always be huge questions which will forever be debated in any type of fandom, whether it's the romance between certain characters being real or not to whether the newest stuff is better than the older stuff. There always has to be a person with a differing opinion to another, it's pretty much a human thing we all do when it comes down it. But coming to anime the "Subs vs Dubs" question is one which will always be at large no matter what year just like the whole "New or Old" one. Looking Subs Vs Dubs either way there's pros and cons which both sides get but for me, rather than looking at the good and bad I'd just want to enjoy it instead. But lets look at bad and good anyway, firstly looking at my preference, subs. Cons:
    1. Fansubbers are indefinitely a con. We've all seen the memes which take the mickey of them for putting some silly mistakes in there which don't make sense. 2. It's not in English. Yes, this is a con if you really wanted to enjoy anime with English talking just like you did when you were younger! (Pokemon, Digimon, etc.) With subs you just can't do that because they're all in Japanese. 3. Sometimes, you just can't read those subtitles fast enough and the pain of having the go back to that point and re-read what it said can be frustrating as hell. 4. It's hard to read and take that sword swinging action in all at once, sometimes you miss out on what has just happened because you were reading what they were saying. And that's annoying, once again you have to go back for something else! 5. Younger generations won't necessarily be able to enjoy the anime in sub, some won't have that ability to read properly, never mind at the speed of the subtitles.
Pros:
    1. Say it's a new series being aired in Japan, you can watch it without waiting for a dub, if a dub is even adapted for it. 2. Likelihood is, reading abilities (speed is a biggy) will improve after learning to read and watch the picture at the same time. 3. English may improve. Sure some fansubbers get it wrong, but they at least try to put it in a sentence and you'll start to learn how to structure one subconsciously. 4. Everything originally intended in the anime will be there. Sometimes dubs cut it out, Cardcaptor Sakura (known as Cardcaptors) is in that list. In the Cardcaptors Dub a lot of romance and relationship depth was cut out, specifically between Sakura and Syaoran/Lee which I personally loved seeing, but never saw in the dub which was pretty disappointing when I found out. 5. You'll probably start learning words in Japanese (Baka is pretty well known now), which is pretty damn awesome, right? 6. You're more likely to get random signs in the background and such translated instead of wondering what the heck it said. 7. You can watch more series in general because of the subs, although yes, there is a lot of subbed anime which has been dubbed, still not everything has been dubbed and this means you could be missing a hidden gem.
Now for the Dubbed anime. Cons:
1.Let's face it, sometimes the dubs sometimes just sound grotty. The majority of the time, they're not bad but there are those occasions which the dubs are horrible. 2. In dubbed versions they can't replicate sayings, and references to holidays, other anime, celebrities, historical figures, jokes/puns, some names, music, holidays, and wordplay which they could easily have done in the subs and explained it. 3. Those damn signs haven't been translated again and I really want to know what they say! In dubs, we don't always get that which you can in subs. 4. You only have a certain amount of animes you can watch, after all the dubed versions are only like that because people have bought the animes they think could sell, rather than just picking anything and everything. 5. Loss of little bits in the story, as mentioned in the subbed with Cardcaptor Sakura, you tend to lose some sort of story thing which was in the sub version. Although this doesn't count for all animes.
Pros:
    1. It's in English, our language which we have grown up with and understand so well it's like it's the back of our hands. Who wouldn't love that? No other language to put us off. 2. No reading is required, which means non of those problems of having to go back to read the subs again or missing that action scene because of subtitles. We can just watch and sit back calmly. 3. Sometimes, the dubs have better/just as good voices. I haven't watched it personally, but I know Cowboy Bebop is certainly one of those animes which has a pretty good dub to match it's sub. 3. Lots of people will be able to watch, who didn't want to watch it because of subs. Let's face it, not many people will want to watch it simply because reading is too much work sometimes. The likelihood is, if it's English they're going to be much more interested in it. 4. No face glued to the screen trying to take in everything at once. With subs you do that all the time and let's face it, sometimes the sentences end up looking like mush when you could just simply listen to it and understand it without a problem. 5. Although sounds mean it is a true fact: what if you can't read? Little kids watching the shows can't read, we couldn't really read like we can now when we where watching Pokemon, people still can't now and dubs help us with that. 6. It affects more people worldwide, as stated earlier, people tend to like things in their home language rather than in another. Also, people may become interested in anime from watching that dub.
When it comes to the "Subs vs Dubs" topic I really haven't got a particularly biased view for which people have to watch. I mean I am a sub watcher rather than dubs, and I really prefer watching it that way, but I wouldn't shoot down those who watch dubs, it's their choice after all. I even watch Naruto only in Dubs because I prefer it that way despite being a sub watcher. So, discussions are certainly, open if anyone sees this, please feel free to fire away. Which do you prefer, sub or dub? Maybe even both?
