Jiraiya was one of those characters that always gave you everything, He made you laugh, cry, think, love, he was always trying to make peoples lives better. You only have to look at how much love and respect he got from Minato, Kushina, Naruto, Tsunade, Kakashi, Hiruzen and everyone else in Konoha to know how special he was. Hell even Sasuke would have treated him with respect. Jiraiya is someone who spent his life trying to improve the lives of the people he cared for, his friends, his students and the villagers, Jiraiya wanted to end the shinobi world, end the endless fighting because his compassion was not inclusive to just Konoha, his compassion spread throughout the entire world. Unlike many shinobi who enjoyed the fighting and valued their village above the others even if it meant killing many innocent lives, Jiraiya was different, lived through wars, saw the death and hate and saw a future where it never ended. He spent his life traveling and looking for ways to make sure that future never happened. Jiraiya spent his life thinking he failed, failed to get Tsunade’s love, failed to save Minato and Kushina, failed to stop Orochimaru and save his teacher, failed to help the world. In his dying moments this was all he could think of, that he was a failure, that his life had no meaning, until Naruto. Naruto is someone who can save the future, the world and the people, Naruto has the compassion that Jiraiya, Minato, Hiruzen, Kakashi and everyone else in the leaf shared. Just before he died Jiraiya realised that Naruto had the will of fire, the will to help, to change and to love. In his dying moments Jiraiya was able to send Naruto vital information to save everyone, he died realising he was not a failure and that even though he hadn’t saved the world personally he saved it through Naruto. This thought was enough for him to die with a smile on his face, he died knowing that despite all his failures he had done something valuable, he’d helped Naruto grow, he’d helped him become what he needed to be to save the world and with that Jiraiya died smiling. (I know this is a little over the top and soppy but Jiraiya was worth it damn it!!)
“Never go back on your word… and never give up. That’s your ninja way… and as your mentor… I have no business whining! Because… the student’s ninja way should be the master’s too! Isn’t that so, Naruto?!”
