Collection Update + Anime Round-up

I have decided to go on another anime spending spree though I only wanted to waste my wallet rather than use my debit card as I'm saving that for imports in June. I went to HMV and finally decided to pick up Freedom and Origins. I then wanted more Manga to read after finishing the One Piece 3-in-1 Vol.1 which has Volumes 1 to 3. I have Death Note Black Edition Vol.2 (Volumes 3 and 4) ready but to avoid boredom I wanted more to stay ahead. In the end, I finally managed to purchase the second Neon Genesis Evangelion 3-in-1 Manga (Volumes 4 to 6). NGE is my favourite series so I am very excited to pick this up before I lose it again. Anyway, here's a recap of the shows I've watched over in April and the past few days. - Finally watched the 3.33 version of Evangelion 3.0: You Can (Not) Redo. It uses the widescreen style rather than full screen but it looks gorgeous nonetheless. The story is easy to get confused by but the music is fantastic. Watched it in 1080p. Rated 8/10, certified Very Good. - Decided to watch the new Berserk movies early to see if picking up the Blu-Ray release was worth it. Part I: The Egg of the King was short, quick, nicely designed but has some meh CGI moments. Part II: The Battle for Doldrey has a good adaptation for the forest battle and the Doldrey battle with probably most of the budget spent on THAT scene with the violin going mad in the background. Both watched in 1080p. Both given 8/10, Very Good. - Chosen a random series to watch called Tokyo Magnitude 8.0, a realistic what-if approach where Tokyo gets an earthquake. The story is actually good paced but the second half does mess around with your head but gives you a tearful moment if you realise what has happened. Watched in 720p. Also given a Very Good, 8/10. - Oreimo caught my eye a few times and decided to watch the first season. It's now one of my favourites, with a great opening song and fun characters. This is one series that I will try to grab on Blu-Ray from Aniplex if they keep the price at a steady £200 before they end up raising it. Watched in 720p, a Great 9/10. - As mentioned before, I purchased my first import copy from America which was already existent in the UK; Baka & Test Season 1. I've put this show on hold until I have watched a majority of the others that I have started but I am loving the concept already and I'm only 2 episodes into the series. Watched in 1080p, a Very Good 8/10. - Samurai Champloo has finally been finished, probably the longest anime that I have started to watch due to the lack of re-playability and temptation to watch other shows instead. I went through the second half watching 2 episodes a night until I got to the finale. The ending was very well done and for that, I decided to upgrade my opinion from an 8 to an 9/10, a Great show and a great set of characters. Watched in 720p. - Not only that, but Durarara!! was finished as well. The concept is not as strong as Baccano! had, but deserves a second season if it ends up doing so. Another Great 9/10. Watched in 720p. - I have currently finished watching bits of Gurren Lagann and Soul Eater from Lovefilm. Both shows are really good to watch, Lagann has that epic feel while Soul Eater has that hilarious approach with Death the Kidd. Both watched in 480p and given a Great 9/10. - One last anime to mention, the Petit Eva: Evangelion@School. Honestly, this show was so random I had no idea what was going on, I understood the jokes with Rei and Gendo (LOL he was moving with his desk). But if the ONA was more like Haruhi-chan, then this would have been really good. A fine 6/10. Watched in 480p.
