Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge | Episode 2"There's someone who can't live without me"
Yamane is mental and this episode focuses on her attempt to kill the hair queen. We get more background into the curse and the killing goods. These items hold a power over the author and will eventually cause them to go crazy and kill. She uses a hypodermic needle as her weapon, which I thought was cool, to put people into an eternal sleep.
The episode had the same structure as the first with it starting out light and then getting darker and more involved. It starts off with Iwai heading off to school with short hair (I prefer it long) and taking an elementary school bag with her which is too cute. Everyone loves her hair!
Then it descends into the fight with Yamane which was ok. I could've done without the stylistic colour over the top so the action would look more real and less dream like. It didn't feel quite right when you couldn't see the impact of the blood. We learn killing goods can't be destroyed as both of them are put to sleep.
I like the story shift here to them being under the protection of the sadistic professor who seems to have kept her alive for fun more than anything as Yamane and her sister Byouinzaka still want to kill Iwai. It's said if you kill the hair queen the curse is lifted.
Byouinzaka is an instead which allows the Author of a killing good to act out a murder to keep them at bay. I think this is a nice touch and gave the episode its bizarre edge as you have Yamane licking Byouinzaka's injection wounds.
So I guess Iwai is Kiri's instead as he cuts her hair in order to not become insane. I enjoy their solitary moments together as it strengthens their bond as they both need each other.
Next Time: There is a killer on the loose and he's got a hammer.
