こんにちわみんなさん
I just finished this series and I must say, this series is going to be a tough one to top especially when it comes to how memorable it is. Many of this anime's moments will likely stick with me forever. But let me break it down in this pseudo-review. I really shouldn't be doing this so late at night but with Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate coming out tomorrow, I'm going back to gaming (another reason why I finished Clannad: After Story now).
Clannad was really good when it came to its story and development of its characters. The humour was definitely there and it was one of the funnier series I've seen up to this point. It has its happy and sad moments but overall it was a great watch.
I didn't talk a lot about Clannad because there's so much to say about After Story. This is the better of the two seasons for sure. One can learn so much by watching Clannad: After Story.
It's full of life lessons, presented in relatable ways. I know I certainly related to one arc in particular. Each episode had meaning and there was no messing around when it came to its story-telling. The story jumped from happy to sad so quickly I often didn't know what to feel at any given time. But I loved it for that. While I'm sensitive and it doesn't take a lot to make me cry, I cried a lot. Both tears of happiness and sadness alike. Heck, sometimes it was both those kinds of tears in one episode. If anything, the focus of this anime is family. I took a few hints from this anime: work hard, claim responsibility for your actions, treat everyone with respect and you will make it far in life and become a better person. The story leaves no loose ends; everything is resolved and it's clear exactly what's going on.
The soundtrack was simply spectacular. Always appropriate, always suited what was happening on screen. The music helped carry the mood of the anime and it was because of the music that helped give scenes more impact. The only inappropriate theme at times was the ending song. There are some points when you just watched a sad scene and then the ending song comes on which is a happy, upbeat song. Most of the time it's fine but there are times when you should just skip it.
Now the characters is where After Story shines. Tomoya and Nagisa finally get great development of their characters. Even I will admit I didn't like Nagisa as much as I liked the other girls from Clannad. Out of the 5 of them she was my least favourite after the first season. She was just so plain compared to the other 4 unique girls. She didn't really have any quirks or anything that made her special. That changes in After Story and now, obviously, she's my favourite. Each character plays an essential role here in the story; no one character feels insignificant to the plot. Even some of the supporting chracters from Clannad get their stories told and their arcs are also fairly important. But of course, Tomoya is the character that stands out above the rest. This is an anime about his life: the experiences he has with those in his life. Another lesson this anime teaches you is to get back up, no matter how much life wants to toss you back down. Tomoya goes through really tough times but he continues to try hard for those he cares about. Life should also never be tackled alone. Humans rely on each other to survive and live full lives.
This is one anime I can most certainly recommend to anyone, regardless if they like anime or not. I myself am going to attempt to show this to my family who are all opposed to this hobby. This is a show about life. Life has its happy and sad moments. Yet, even though this show is animated, it tells its stories realistically, in a way most people can relate to. If you're a fan of slice of life, there's no excuse to not watch this. Even if you hate slice of life, romance, or drama you should at least try and watch this anime. Whatever I watch now is going to have tough shoes to fill. We'll see if anything can dethrone this anime.
