MAL Ideas / Hopefully not Mal ideas oh em gee pun.
Idea: Mod only responses in support board
Having strictly mod-only responses could potentially prevent a gaggle of people who have no idea what they're talking about from stumbling over one another's thoughts. Going on about nonsense that may even end up becoming off-topic results in pointless discussion, where the original user's question may go unanswered. Moderators are after all "helpful individuals", whom I might add are intelligent and well-equipped. They can certainly answer user's questions in clear and informative ways. Not all regular members have the answers or abilities to solve issues brought up in the support board. Leave it up to mods who know the answers and have those abilities.
Potential downside(s):
-Regular users would have to be granted access to the support board in the first place in order to bring up their issues.
-Some topics raised in the support board may not be in a moderators area of expertise (example: list design questions).
-Moderators may have to invest more time in the support board. (They wouldn't have the help of regular users who do know what they are talking about to solve various cases for them).
Idea: Remove excess favorites on various users profiles
There aren't even that many (from what I've seen) that it really throws off the top anime, but personally I find it annoying.
Potential downside(s):
-Not worth putting time into.
Idea: Add Entry Manga, Character, People Relations
This might be a helpful addition for those looking to write about manga, or maybe even characters or people. If an entry can be affiliated with anime, why not with manga?
Potential downside(s):
-Say someone asks "What about relating users, fansub groups, or clubs?" I can see issues with all of these, like opening up the potential for user hate blogs.*
-We are able to create our own entry categories, so we could just create a tag for "manga". My counter: However, to prevent spamming issues, we still have to add an anime. What if we are not blogging about anime?
*Not to be confused with a user writing about why they didn't like X anime or X manga, etc., but a user making a blacklist of other users. [Not that there aren't already some out there]
Idea: The annual change of MyAnimeList's logo
To keep it fresh, we could add the current year to the bottom right corner of it. Or maybe even hold a competition among members of MAL to make the new logo. (Competition held a month or so prior to the year change). (January 1st).
Potential downside(s):
-Has to look decent (We want it to look decent, but what if the competition entries are poorly made, unprofessional, etc.).
-Potential drama.
This idea was spurred by a certain other individual.
