I have finally decided to tackle one of anime's most popular and well recieved series: Clannad. Ever since I really entered the anime scene in September of last year, I have been reading and hearing a seemingly endless stream of praise for Clannad. While I've heard mostly good things about the first season of Clannad the second season, After Story, I haven't heard one person say anything bad about it. Even people who didn't like the first season came to like or even love the second season. So after hearing all of this, and even buying the DVDs in preparation in December, I had to at least finish the first season of Clannad before I went insane.
So far, I'm liking Clannad better than Kanon and Air at least when it comes to their characters. In Kanon and Air, there were only a few interactions between the main heroines. Each character had their own story and the stories rarely intersected with each other. In Clannad, there's a sense of friendship between the main heroines that just wasn't present in Kanon and Air. They're all going through the same experience together rather than in isolation in Kanon and Air. Although there are clear distinctions between each girls' story, there's also an overarching main story linking it all together. It's extremely well put together. I feel like Kanon and Air were simply practice runs before they came to perfecting the formula with Clannad. Damn, if I'm liking Clannad this much already, I can't imagine the praises I'll be singing about After Story if it's as good as everyone's claiming it is.
I figured I would slow-burn Clannad but the story is just too good for me to simply put down. I still have to remind myself to finish Angelic Layer before I start Chobits, which I intend to watch before Clannad: After Story. With my university's reading week coming up, hopefully I'm able to finish everything on time.
